CHRONICLE
Chronicle (2021-) is a series visualizing colonization globally over the last six centuries. The central portion of this project consists of seven paintings, one of each continent and surrounding region. In each, countries are painted the predominant color of their flag (France is blue and Namibia red). On top, painted lines connect colonizing/controlling with colonized nations, also in the dominant country’s color. The lines are painted in chronological order starting with the year 1400. (The exception is Antarctica, which, with no inhabitants, is painted in pie slice-like colors representing primary claims and treaty consultants, plus hundreds of unrecognized claims painted as small flag-like rectangles.) The ongoing series includes works on paper, atlases, notebooks, and an 8 x 14 foot painting of the world, in progress, that visualizes all colonization/control and colonized connections, in historic order since 1400, in one artwork.
